A treat for Riverdale Girl Guides

After the event, the Girl Guides picked up litter while also collecting recyclable materials for their school's recycling project

Girl Guides from Riverdale had the pleasure of being invited as guests to the Bhekizizwe Joseph Shabalala (BJS) Marathon in Ladysmith recently.

The marathon is held to commemorate the life of South African musician Joseph Shabalala, who of course was the founder of legendary isicathamiya group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

At the event, the Riverdale Girl Guides Movement Unit met Mrs Shabalala, who treated them to lunch. The girls were also awarded medals.
After the event, the Girl Guides picked up litter while also collecting recyclable materials they brought back to their school to be used in the ‘Litter 4 Tokens’ recycling project.

“Seeing them care so much gives me the hope that surely they will be future nature lovers,” said Guider Deborah Gamede.
