Vryheid swimmers in top form

Danika and her family will be leaving South Africa in May to swim in the World Championships Gala in Paris

Everybody has surely heard the names Tatjana Schoenmaker or Chad le Los, but three of Vryheid’s swimmers had the privilege of taking part with these world-class athletes at the 2023 National Championship Gala from April 12 to 16 at Gqeberha. Danika and Ivan Vyncke competed in the S13 Multiclass Disabilities events, and Ashley Loch competed in the 50m and 100m backstroke. Vryheid Swimming Club is proud of these three swimmers who even brought medals home.

Danika Vyncke – gold for 100m breaststroke, and silver for 50m breaststroke and freestyle;

Ivana Vyncke – bronze for 50m backstroke.

Danika, Ivana and Giuliana Vyncke also took part in the SA Schools Gala held at Kingspark from April 21 to 23. The competition was tough, but the three sisters weren’t intimidated and proved why they are a force to be reckoned with. They received the following medals.

Danika (S13 Multiclass) – four gold medals;

Ivana (S13 Multiclass) – two silver and two gold medals; and

Giuliana – two bronze and six gold medals.

Danika and her family will be leaving South Africa in May to swim in the World Championships Gala in Paris, for which she qualified this season. Vryheid Swimming Club wishes her all the best and knows that she will do us proud.

As of May 1, the club will bid farewell to the three Vyncke sisters. They have decided to focus on full-time swimming and will be joining the Seagulls Swimming Club in Durban, where the water is much warmer all year round than here in Vryheid. Vryheid Swimming Club wishes them all the best in their new journey.
