Car show brings communities together

People from across the province converged in Estcourt for the 036 Expo

Dozens of locals and visitors gathered at the Forderville Hall on March 18 to be part of the 036 Expo. This event was hosted by Shaydon Sookoo and his dad Rinesh who had been planning this car show for more than six months.

The months of hard work, time and money culminated in a successful show, which attracted supporters from Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Durban and Estcourt. The 036 EXPO featured a ‘show and shine’, ‘roaring engines’ and sound competition. Shaydon says the reason behind hosting the show was to provide entertainment and unite the community.

“The main idea behind hosting the 036 Expo was to try and keep our small community of Estcourt united and to provide much needed entertainment for the town as well, as it keeps all youngsters involved in such activities. It’s a great sport which has kept me occupied for the past 15 years,” he said.

He hails the show as a success, saying that some of the highlights included the “ground breaking sound pressure level (SPL) and bass boxing vehicles as well as the immaculate cars and engines on display. The overall winners of the SPL were Team Hotwired, Team Masons, and Team SJ Tracking PMB.

One of the cars in the Show & Shine category.

The bass boxing winners were Team PK Car Miracles and Team Gone Deaf (PMB). Show and shine winners were from Pietermaritzburg, Estcourt, Durban as well as Ladysmith.

“I would like to thank each and every one from our community that supported our event to make it such a great success as well as our neighbouring towns for the support. It’s been great to keep our community together with such events. I would like to thank my dad, Rinesh Sookoo, the mastermind behind the planning of every aspect of the show as well as countless efforts to get things done. I would like to thank all my sponsors who made this show possible as well as those who stood beside me during this time. I really appreciate it, concluded Shaydon.
