Brawny Bongani beats off competitors

Bongani lives a life of discipline and dedication

Discipline, dedication and determination are the secrets to Bongani Sphe Mavundla’s peak fitness, something he’s been passionate about since a teenager. The 24-year-old from Phangweni made Estcourt proud when he competed and won the Northern KZN Region Body Building Competition held in Ladysmith recently.

Bongani was the overall winner in the men’s division and walked off with a cash prize, trophy as well as bragging rights of being victorious in this prestigious competition.

This win was a momentous occasion for Bongani who has been fine-tuning and honing his body since high school. Inspired by retired professional bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, he decided to choose a road to body building and fitness.

“I started gym when I was in Grade eight after watching and listening to Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wanted to know more about his life and this lifestyle and it motivated me,” said Bongani.

He admits that he does not have any hobbies besides spending time in the gym and says he has big dreams to build on his career. He also wants to be an example to the younger generation, encouraging a healthier lifestyle.

“Fitness needs discipline and respect. You cannot smoke or drink alcohol. You have to a gym lover. People want to walk this path have to be dedicated, no matter how long it takes and be associated with people who will motivate them in the gym,” he says.
