Water outages an ongoing issue

It is unknown when a continuous water supply will be restored

Residents in Aloe Park, Hillside, Rose Park and Acaciavale are up in arms with uThukela because of all the water outages in these areas.

Since last week, residents have been greeted with ‘dry taps’ when they get home from work.

Ward 13 DA Councillor Anand Rajkoomar commented that uThukela does not want to give answers as to why people have to go without water every afternoon.

“This is an ongoing problem and areas such as Chisty Place, Kandahar Avenue, Drividian Road, Platrand Avenue and other roads sometimes go weeks without water,” said Rajkoomar.

One resident from Chisty Place told Cllr Rajkoomar that out of 31 days in a month, they only have water for ±16 days. He questioned how they are expected to live in these conditions.

“There are two schools in Aloe Park, so how does uThukela expect the learners to go without running water,” asked Rajkoomar He added that the situation is disheartening, as these students have to bring their own drinking water to school. “This cannot go on! The residents need water, so something urgent must be done to remedy this state of affairs,” fumed the councillor.

Another resident pointed out the irony of the situation – ‘dry taps’ while rain buckets down from the skies.
