Update: Parts of town still without power

It is unknown when electricity will be back in all areas

The substation that caught alight in Jantha Street yesterday (February 4) caused 11kv panels and switchgear to burn out completely.

According to Alfred Duma Local Municipality, the substation is one of their primary switch-houses that distributes electricity to areas such as Smartiesville, Acaciavale, Hillside, Rose Park, Leonardsville, and industrial customers in the Progress / Main Road area.

It is likely that the above areas will be without electricity for a few days or even as long as a week.

The fault cascaded and tripped the main primary supply at the Danskraal intake point.

The technical team is still busy trying to restore certain parts of Hospital Park, Observation Hill and the Egerton area.

The Electricity Department is currently sourcing contractors to fast-track the repairs at the Jantha switch-house.

The local municipality appeals to its customers to please bear with the technical team as they try their level best to restore power as soon as possible.
