Ilenge soccer tournament a success

The initial purpose of the tournament was to end clan and tribal conflicts

The Ilenge Football Association held yet another successful tournament recently in the Ilenge area.

Known as the Ilenge Annual Soccer Tournament, they started collaborating with netball in December 2018 to provide a platform for young girls to showcase their talent during the competition as well.

Thulisa Football Club and Dream Chasers were crowned champions of the soccer and netball respectively.

R40,000 was up for grabs as prize money for the soccer, and R11,400 for netball.

The association managed to collaborate with different stakeholders from the private, public and traditional authority sector, with successful results.

Association chairman Bongumusa Mkhize thanked all their sponsors and partners for contributing to the success of the 43rd edition of the tournament. The sponsors include Orange Grove, Boxer Superstores, Department of Health, Msinga Local Municipality, Department of Sport & Recreation, Bahle Zondo Foundation, Nhlanhleni SAPS and Incwadi Community Project. “We are humbled by all their support and hope we shall continue to work together in the future,” said Mkhize.
