Picket outside uThukela offices

The DA decided to protest to draw attention to the town's water crisis

Democratic Alliance (DA) members took to the streets today (December 5) and staged a protest outside the uThukela District Municipality offices to draw attention to the water crisis the town is currently facing.

Various areas of Ladysmith have been without water for the past few days and are still struggling with dry taps.

“We are very concerned by the lack of urgency when it comes to uThukela dealing with the large number of water outages. I called the municipal manager on November 25 about the water issues in Ward 13 and 20 in Ladysmith that were affecting thousands of households. Over a week later, those problems are still persisting,” said DA Councillor Thys Janse van Rensburg.

Cllr van Rensburg continued that, “After getting assistance from the DA provincially, for them to interact with their counterparts in the IFP, fortunately things started happening. The fact of the matter is that it’s the people of uThukela that voted the IFP into power and those very same voters expect the IFP to perform. As the opposition in uThukela, we will see to it that the pressure keeps on being applied until the issues are sorted out.”
