Protesters say ‘no bail’ for alleged rapist

Their anger was visible as they chanted and waved their placards

Protesters gathered outside the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (November 29), demanding no bail for an alleged rapist who appeared in court.

Making their voices heard, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members and family of the victim stood together outside the courthouse. “We are here today as the EFF to stand against violence towards women and children. Especially in a case like this, justice must be served and no bail must be granted. We’re here to take a stand against abusers,” said EFF deputy chairperson Thulani Sibeko.

The protesters’ anger was evident as they chanted and held placards aloft.

“Some schools in Roosboom are very far away and the kids have to walk a distance to get education. It is not right for them to be taken advantage of like this. That’s why we want to see justice served for the victim,” said one of the protesters at the court.
