Helping communities blossom

Locals were encouraged to start community gardens

Democratic Alliance (DA) members revisited the residents of Ward 8 on November 5. This time they came bearing gifts which were requested by the community.

With seedlings in hand, the DA members were pleased to meet with the residents and distribute the seedlings, which they believe will help to curb hunger and allow residents to cultivate food in their own yards to combat rising food costs.

“We will keep visiting people in all wards of the municipality to make sure people have a garden in their backyard and we also encourage them to partner with each other so it will be easy for us if we give them seedlings,” said local DA caucus chair Musa Nkala.

He added that the DA is currently getting a petition signed that will fight high food costs.

“Government has forgotten about the people. Even those who are employed can’t afford food, it is so expensive these days,” Nkala added.
The locals were grateful for the seedlings and assured the DA members that they would be put to good use.
