Boost for youth-owned business

The equipment will be an advantage to the small agricultural business

Mayor Mduduzi Myeza visited Xolelwa Agri Business in Ward 3 on November 8. The mayor was accompanied by joined by Ward 3 Councillor Kubheka.

This visit comes after a youth-owned public management graduate, whose name is known but withheld due to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), attended a business management training organised by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Youth Office. After the training, the graduate was taken through the application process of the NYDA grant and then qualified and was awarded R50,000 grant funding.

Her funding was then used to purchase equipment, which included 200 broiler chickens, cages and feed.

Furthermore, the municipality – through the Office of the Mayor – assisted the applicant with transportation of her equipment from Durban to Loskop at no extra cost to her. The Office of the Mayor continues to encourage and call upon youth entrepreneurs to make use of the partnership the office enjoys with stakeholders such as the NYDA through participation in programmes such as the Business Management Training (offered by the agency), which enables access to funding.

The Office of the Mayor has committed to ensure that all youth entrepreneurs who come for assistance are properly assisted by the youth office and their cases followed up in order to track progress.
