Neighbourhood Watch group comes as a welcome relief for crime prevention

Volunteers ensure that a large area of Forderville is covered 24 hours a day

With the increase in criminal activity in Forderville, a group of individuals saw fit to start a Neighbourhood Watch called the Crime Watch Group (CWG) that covers a large area.

With a clear set of guidelines and a member’s code of conduct, the group is set to make Forderville safe again. There are regular daily patrols by volunteer members, and the large area is covered almost 24 hours a day.

The group of dedicated volunteers is on immediate alert response should they receive a call from residents in the area. To date, the group has managed to identify hotspots in the area that require ‘stop and search’ patrols.

Regular updates are given to the community via a WhatsApp group concerning identified individuals who are suspected of committing crimes.

The group has also responded to medical emergencies which included a female being involved in an altercation and stabbed with a broken bottle; an intoxicated person falling off a moving vehicle; a dog attack; and an accident scene which they reported and had a quick response from the necessary authorities.

Community members have welcomed this initiative in ensuring that the Forderville area is made safe once again. Welcoming the group, Estcourt SAPS station commander Colonel Nkosinathi Radebe and his team are ready to work hand-in-hand with CWG should arrests need to be made. CWG is run as a non-profit organisation and is being registered as such.
