Load-shedding or leaking water meters?

On Monday afternoon, a journalist visited the site again and water was still pouring out of the meter

Basic service delivery has been under the spotlight lately, as residents continuously struggle without water and electricity. Load-shedding is thought to be the main reason for the poor water supply, since the pumps can’t operate when the power is off. However, leaking water meters could also have a part to play in the saga. A leaking water meter in Heeren Street at the SAVF Jubileum Old Age Home was reported two months ago. The relevant reference number was received, but up to date, nothing has been done about it. The Vryheid Herald visited the site and was told that municipal workers had responded, but they allegedly sat under a tree instead of fixing the meter. The Herald contacted the municipality last week, who indicated that they would report the problem and fix the leaking water meter as soon as possible. On Monday afternoon, a journalist visited the site again and water was still pouring out of the meter. This raises the question: The town is ‘handicapped’ by water issues, so why are leaking meters left unattended?
