Local taxi association distances itself from national shutdown

It is believed that the proposed strike is linked to the petrol price

The Klipriver Taxi Association has distanced itself from the rumoured national shutdown that is supposedly set to take place tomorrow (June 10).

The chairperson of the taxi association, Bhekuyise Masondo, has confirmed that local taxis will not be part of the shutdown, if it happens. “According to national and provincial Santaco leadership, taxis will not be taking part in the proposed shutdown,” said Masondo.

There is widespread panic all over the country since talk of nationwide protest action has been circulating on all social media platforms.

The ever-increasing cost of fuel is believed to be the main reason why people are threatening to take to the streets and bring the country to a standstill.
