Sewage and potholes persist in Circle Road

Angry business owners say they will not accept this ongoing situation

Business owners are at their wits’ end with the sewage problems and potholes in Circle Road, which they say have been repeatedly reported.

“We have new leadership in council and yet there is still no service delivery!” fumed one businessman who did not wish to be named.

According to a businesswoman in the area, the road and her driveway were dug up in 2002 and have not been repaired in the last 20 years. She was given an order number for repairs to her driveway, but that’s as far as it got.

She claims that she hires people at her own cost to fill the potholes. Another of her complaints is that sewage has been overflowing for the past four years and this has also been reported on numerous occasions to uThukela, to no avail. Water is seeping into the factory premises, causing damage to the infrastructure and equipment. She is irate that repairs are now being done at her own expense as well.

The issue of the driveway being dug up has been handed over to her attorneys.

She fumes that she pays over R50,000 in levies every month, but still nothing is done to remedy the situation. She says they have suppliers and buyers from big companies who come to their factory, and it is ‘very embarrassing’.
