Vryheid Rugby Club turns over a new leaf

A week later, they are anticipating having another 'go' at Piet Retief on home ground

After a stern ‘talking to’ and commitment reassurances by the players, Vryheid Rugby Club hit the road last weekend to play against Utrecht on their home ground. The team was in good spirits and the meeting between senior and junior players paid off when the Vryheid second team took on Utrecht’s only team. Vryheid pulled their proverbial socks up; old traditions and rules were once again implemented. The team’s discipline and structure were impeccable on the field. This renewed and positive energy saw them taking the lead in the first half and extending that lead to 60-20 when the final whistle blew. ‘Man of the Match’ was CJ Meindertsma for the ‘forwards’ and Luyanda Nglangamandla, who was responsible for at least three or four of the tries.
This coming Saturday, the ‘boys’ will take on Sentraal once again in an away game. A week later, they are anticipating having another ‘go’ at Piet Retief on home ground. This is a game not to be missed and they need the community’s support. Coach Jaco Maritz said they are looking forward to an exciting league with the club’s new attitude in place.
