Career retreat to motivate the youth

Stakeholders from various government and education institutions displayed valuable information

After completing Grade 12 and being unable to further their studies, young people find themselves between a rock and a hard place, as employment opportunities are scarce.

It is for this reason that Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality and the Estcourt Labour Centre conducted a Career Retreat in an attempt to bring hope to the youth.

This activity was held on March 24 at the Estcourt Town Hall.

The welcome address was delivered by Ward 10 councillor Edith Lite, who told the youth that they should grab this opportunity with both hands.

The ‘house’ was moved by her narratives, especially concerning the road to success.

She warned them not to allow peer pressure to divert their dreams and told them that changes in their homes will be determined by their commitment to the course of economic freedom.

She concluded by urging all stakeholders present to make sure that Youth Month is celebrated in a manner that will transform the lives of the people for the better. Stakeholders from various government and education institutions displayed valuable information at various tables and also addressed young people about their areas of interest.

Mmeli Nsibande, who filled in a form at the Department of Employment & Labour and was then entered into the database of jobseekers, is now employed. He told his peers to ensure that they make use of these programmes, because he is living testimony that they work.

All the stakeholders who were part of this Career Retreat promised to be available for the youth whenever they are needed and that more programmes of this nature are in the pipeline.
