Efforts to take the Weenen tourism industry further

The preservation of historical sites and municipal gardens was emphasised

A recent meeting relating to tourism could lead to an upward trend in the industry, specifically in Weenen.

On March 9, a delegation from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, Amafa and CoGTA was hosted by Delene Wagner at the Owl & Elephant Lodge.

At a previous tourism meeting held last month, Wagner reiterated that a meeting be convened to discuss the way forward regarding tourism in Weenen.

She was glad to meet with the representatives, which included Thokozani Ntanzi (COGTA), Reyah Bedesi (ILM), Siyabonga Mbatha (AMAFA), Nhlanhla  Khuzwayo (ILM Director of Planning), Andries Nelani (CoGTA), Xolisile Dlangalala (ILM intern) and Nomfundo Nxumalo (ILM intern).

The issues raised included public policing, which covered urinating and drinking in public.

Service delivery was also discussed, with refuse collection, street cleaning and pothole repairs under the spotlight. The preservation of historical sites and municipal gardens was emphasised.

Advertising the municipal region for its tourism opportunities was also explored. Wagner is hopeful that this meeting will bear fruit.

“The various issues raised will be passed on to the relevant departments for their attention, and follow-ups will be done. This meeting was also arranged to forge new relationships / partnerships with Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality. Together, we can make this work,” she commented.
