ESTCOURT KZN: Mayor goes back to school to aid with essentials

The mayor cited that this will not be the first or the last time the school intervention programme is conducted

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza was back in the classroom on Monday (March 7).
The mayor visited two schools to hand over essentials.

The first school was Semukelwe Primary, where shoes were given to 50 needy learners. The second visit was at Thubelisha High School, where the top learner in the 2021 National Senior Certificate exams in the uThukela district was ‘produced’.

The mayor was accompanied by Cllr T Nqubuka, Cllr Siphiwe Khumalo, Cllr Sicelo Mazibuko and municipal officials.
School Governing Body (SGB) chairpersons Mr Mhlengeni Hadebe and Mrs Hlongwane welcomed the delegation.
The mayor stated that the purpose of his visit was to make sure that ‘education becomes fashionable’.

He said that he is happy with the working relationship between the ward councillor and the school principal in looking after the educational needs in the area. He also stressed that the issue of fixing electricity at the school is in the pipeline.

The mayor cited that this will not be the first or the last time the school intervention programme is conducted.
In his vote of thanks, Mr M Hadebe (SGB chair) alluded to the fact that Semukelwe Primary was fortunate to be visited by the mayor, who has provided educational equipment for the learners on two occasions.

He stressed that the school is very poor and would welcome any type of help given to them by the authorities.
