Businessman fumes about potholes on N11

"Who is responsible for this road?" the businessman fumes

Update: SANRAL has since repaired the potholes in Crawshaw Road.

A local businessman says that the potholes in Crawshaw Road are huge and cause daily problems when he drives along that street.

Huge potholes filled with water

Businessman Ahmed Asvat adds that the potholes often fill up with water due to a water source underground. This makes it difficult for motorists to see just how big they really are.

Motorists are complaining that it’s even worse when it rains, as the potholes become barely visible. Damage is done to vehicles if motorists are unlucky enough to hit the potholes.

Municipality says it’s a national road

According to Asvat, he has contacted Alfred Duma Local Municipality and Public Safety, only to be told that this is a national problem, as it is the N11 road. “Who is responsible for this road?” the businessman fumes.

Repaired but back again

He says the potholes were repaired at the end of January, by the local municipality, who now claim that they are not responsible for the road. The potholes have since resurfaced and the problem continues.

The businessman says he pays rates and expects better service from the ‘powers that be’.

Municipality responds

Municipal spokesperson Siyabonga Maphalala confirmed that Crawshaw Road is a national road and it is maintained by the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL), which he will refer the matter to.

He further commented that he has previously referred complaints to SANRAL and hopes they will sort the matter out this time.
