Two suspects were arrested and have appeared in court.

Two suspects arrested for drug-related crimes:

An intelligence-driven and multidisciplinary operation took place on February 19.

This was carried out in the Osizweni policing area, with the assistance of Osizweni Crime Prevention and Newcastle Cluster Task Team members.

The operation focused on drug-related crimes in the area.

According to Lizzy Arumugam, of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, members went to a house in the Blaauwbosch area.

“They were informed of a suspect in possession of various drugs,” said Arumugam.

When police arrived at the scene, they identified a 19-year-old suspect in possession of 12 parcels of crystal meth, two parcels of dagga, and heroine.

The total estimated value of the recovered drugs was approximately R1 000.

In another raid, a 23-year-old suspect was apprehended after being found in possession of two whole Mandrax tablets, one quarter mandrax tablet, six parcels of heroine, and 27 parcels of dagga.

“The street value of the drugs recovered was estimated to be around R2 600,” she said.

Both suspects have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.
