ESTCOURT KZN: Loskop student is uThukela district’s top matric learner

Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu said that KZN was the only province in the country to receive the most distinctions and bachelor passes

Following on the heels of the announcement of the national matric results yesterday (January 20) by Basic Education Department minister Angie Motshekga, the KwaZulu-Natal district results were released at Estcourt High School today (January 21).

 

Each of the 12 districts gathered at their respective venues and the ceremony was broadcast virtually.

The Class of 2021 achieved an overall pass rate of 76.4 percent. KwaZulu-Natal grade 12s that wrote the National Senior Certificate examination produced a pass rate of 76.8 percent.

Although this was a ‘marginal decrease’ from 77.6 percent in 2020, said Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu, and added that KZN was the only province in the country to receive the most distinctions and bachelor passes.

The highlight of the day was when it was the turn for the announcement of the uThukela top learners and there was thunderous applause in the hall at Estcourt High School.

The top learner in the district is Selusiwe Ntshalintshali from Thubelisha High School in Loskop.

Second is Lungelo Cyrill Khumalo from St Chad’s High School.

Third is Purity Amahle Ndlela from Ladysmith High School.

In fourth place is Luvuyo Sbonginkosi Mtshali from Ladysmith High School.

And sharing fifth place were Shakaarah Zaian Bharath from Ladysmith High School and Minenhle Ndumiso Gasa from Dr Joseph Shabalala Secondary School.

Nkululeko Gift Vilakazi was the top performing adult education and training sector.

The learners received certificates, trophies as well as electronic equipment. They were showered with congratulations and applause.
