VRYHEID KZN: Tar road cycling is much like mountain biking

There is a mountain bike race coming up on January 29 at Utrecht Dam

It has been so wet lately that mountain biking has really been a challenge. For most of us who are mountain bikers and not road cyclists, we long to ride on our single tracks, forest roads and district roads again, but we have been confined to a lot of tar road cycling during the past few weeks. But of course, with the roads being in the ‘state of disaster’ they are, with all the potholes, this has funnily enough been quite close to the proper mountain biking we are used to.

But last Saturday, we managed to have a district road ride that was quite dry because the Friday was a whole day of sunshine. So except for a few wet patches, we had a great mountain bike ride and it was great to pedal along as friends out there again. It has been a great start to the new year and we look forward to cycling many safe kilometres together this year. If you have been meaning to start cycling again, come and join us. We are a great bunch and love having new, fresh faces every now and then. There is a mountain bike race coming up on January 29 at Utrecht Dam.
