Search and Rescue teams save flash flood victims

Motorists are advised to avoid the lower CBD area

The floods in town have left people stranded and trapped.

This morning (January 17), K9 Search & Rescue teams from Ladysmith and Pietermaritzburg were seen in Illing Road on boats and wearing life jackets, as they went about helping people who were trapped as a result of last night’s flash floods.

The Klip River burst its banks last night, which led to the CBD area being extensively flooded.

Traffic moved slowly this morning, as only two routes were open for people travelling to work. The routes used were past the Indoor Sports Complex or the Ladysmith Bypass.
