K9 Search & Rescue officers searched the banks of the river...
A 29-year-old man is missing after being swept away by the river in the Magangangozi area.
Xolani Dubazane (29) was returning to Bergville with a male companion on Tuesday (January 11). They both got out of a taxi near the river in the Magangangozi area and attempted to cross the bridge.
The male companion told police that he tried to grab Dubazane’s hand to pull him to safety, but couldn’t hold on because the current was too strong after the floods. The water swept him away.

Ladysmith K9 Search & Rescue searched the banks of the river on Wednesday (January 12), to no avail. A team from Pietermaritzburg then headed out on Thursday (January 13), but the situation remains the same and the search continues. No body has yet been found.
