No one was injured during the armed robbery, and police investigations are still underway.

Several shots were fired during an armed robbery at a supermarket in Newcastle.

Newcastle detectives are investigating a business robbery that occurred at Newcastle City Spar at 17:43 on January 6, 2022.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, the supermarket was ready to close when four suspects entered the store pretending to be customers.

She stated that they took up positions inside the supermarket, where two of the suspects approached the cashiers and demanded money, while the other fired a shot.

“It is also claimed that the suspects were able to acquire and unknown amount of cash from two cashiers before leaving the shop. Seven additional shots were fired while they were leaving, two of which damaged a customer’s vehicle,” Arumugam stated.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the robbery and police investigations are still underway.
