Illegal dumping wreaks havoc for residents

The vacant land has turned into a new dump yard, with rubbish bags, alcohol bottles, food and more being dumped there all the time

Illegal dumping is rife all over town, with residents up in arms over the mess that’s all over the show.

The intersection of Leonard Street and Poona Road has been a major problem for residents, and now they say that ‘enough is enough’.

The vacant land has turned into a new dump yard, with rubbish bags, alcohol bottles, food and much more being dumped there all the time. Speaking to a homeowner from Poona Road, he says that each and every day, the wind blows the dirt from the vacant land into his yard and home.

He says, “This mess is uncalled for and we are tired of the constant dirt and smell that we have to deal with every day. Residents have contacted the municipality on numerous occasions, yet nothing ever seems to be done about the situation.”

On rainy days, the street is filled with water due to the storm-water drains being blocked with rubbish. Water can’t pass through and therefore floods the street instead.

People hope that the municipality get their act together and ensure that the problem area is cleaned up soon.
