ESTCOURT KZN: IFP secures victory in 2021 local government elections

Officials from the Independent Electoral Commission, political parties and supporters were present for the announcement

The preliminary 2021 local government election results were delivered to a packed town hall earlier today (November 4).

Officials from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), political parties and supporters were present for the announcement.

There was a celebratory atmosphere in the air with Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) members and supporters making up the majority in attendance.

The much-anticipated preliminary elections results were read out by municipal electoral officer Vusi Magubane to an eager crowd.

He explained that Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality consisted of 47 seats, which would be allocated to 24 ward councillors and 23 proportional representative (PR) councillors.

The seat allocation is as follows for Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality:

IFP – 14 wards and 7 PR seats.
African National Congress – 8 wards and 9 PR seats.
Economic Freedom Fighters – 1 ward and 1PR seat.
Democratic Alliance – No wards and 3 PR seats.
National Freedom Party – 3 PR seats.
Independent candidate – 1 ward.

An alliance with other political parties will see the IFP taking over the municipal council.

There was much celebration as the results were read out as well as after the event concluded.
