Ladysmith KZN: MEC hands over computer equipment to school

About 80 laptops were donated to the learners and educators

MEC for Education Mr Kwazi Mshengu visited the Tatazela area on Tuesday morning (October 19) to hand over Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment. MEC Mshengu was accompanied by Inkosi Langalibalele Mayor JM Mbhele, Ward Cllr Ndumo, uThukela District Exco member Cllr TP Shabalala, District Director Ms P Mokoena, the Amahlubi Traditional Council and stakeholders.

Mr Hadebe from the Amahlubi Traditional Council welcomed everyone and conveyed appreciation to the MEC. About 80 laptops were donated to Tatazela High School, as well as a fully-fledged science laboratory, media centre / digital library, smart classroom, white reflective board and overhead projectors, and a free Wi-Fi network.

In his address, MEC Mshengu told parents and learners that before 1994, only schools of a certain race had the privilege of a ‘better education’ and that some races were only associated with crime and drugs. He called for an end to this stigma. “The Department of Education is making sure that even in deep rural areas, teaching and learning is of high quality. This equipment will make it easier for learners to collaborate and communicate with teachers from outside the district,” said the MEC.
