ESTCOURT KZN: Shepstone Place fraud case hits another hurdle

“The court didn’t have all the paperwork in order"

Shepstone Place Home for the Aged committee members, staff and residents are holding onto hope that the fraud case against former administrator Debbie Potgieter will finally have a trial date by the end of September.

While it was expected that a trial date for the matter would be set in July, there have been several postponements.

The latest news from current administrator Roline Vaughan is that another postponement was granted during August.

“The court didn’t have all the paperwork in order and I had to sit down with the prosecutor on August 20 to go through everything. We had to ask the magistrate to postpone the case. They need to summons Debbie again and she will appear in court at the end of September. Then, hopefully, we will get a trial date,” commented Mrs Vaughan.

Mrs Potgieter, who was employed at the facility for a decade, resigned in February 2019 after she was accused of defrauding the Home for self-benefit at the expense of the elderly and generous donors.
