ESTCOURT KZN: Eight arrested for public violence in Winterton

Winterton police were summoned to the scene where they learnt that the protesting group was unhappy about conditions at the school

A group of disgruntled people blocked off the R600 at the D53 intersection in Winterton this morning (August 23).

 

Winterton police were summoned to the scene where they learnt that the protesting group was unhappy about conditions at a school in the area.

“Officers from the Public Order Policing Unit arrived and, together with the Winterton Visible Policing Unit, engaged the protesters. They refused to vacate the scene,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Eight people were subsequently arrested and charged with public violence. Warrant Officer Khan said the arrested people are expected to appear in the Winterton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (August 24).
