ESTCOURT KZN: Sarvdasha savours more success

"I was so ecstatic, as it is every author's dream to be recognised"

Following on the heels of her successful debut anthology ‘Yellow Roses’, Sarvdasha Sewlal has received more good news. The former Estcourtonian has been nominated as ‘Best Female English Poet’ in The Book Behind Awards.

“The Book Behind Awards is a new and prestigious awards ceremony founded by Nelly Shozana that believes in telling the story behind every successful book, aiming to give local authors the recognition they deserve. A group of publishers put forward their best book titles, together with information, and The Book Behind Awards then made their selection of the books that best fit the different categories,” explained Sarvdasha.

She received the initial good news in early June.

“I was so ecstatic, as it is every author’s dream to be recognised. Being nominated for an award was just the cherry on top. When I shared the news with my parents, they were overwhelmed with joy and so very proud,” she says.
However, just two days before she received the final confirmation, Sarvdasha’s dad, well-known local resident Sunjai Sewlal, passed away.

“It was an emotional rollercoaster, as I could not physically share that moment with him,” she recalls.

Being nominated for this prestigious award is something Sarvdasha holds close to her heart.

“This nomination holds great value to me, as all my success is owed to my parents. I dedicate this award process to my dad, as I am his living legacy now. Hailing from the humble town of Estcourt and being recognised on such an esteemed platform is truly an uplifting moment as an author,” she commented.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my guardian angel dad, my mom, my sister, Krest Publishers, and my family and friends for their encouragement and strength during the nomination period. I would like to advise those who have a passion for writing to believe in their dream and vision and start sharing their stories, as I took a chance on writing and I would have never imagined that my book would be nominated for a local award,” Sarvdasha concludes.
