Ladysmith KZN: Tension mounts between bus service and taxi association

Police have had to intervene and escort buses when coming in and out of town

There has been mounting tension between the Intercape bus service and Sizwe Taxi Association for several months now, with police having to intervene and escort buses when coming in and out of town.

There are several issues that appear to be the cause of the conflict; one being the validity of operating permits for the Intercape buses.

Speaking on behalf of Sizwe Taxi Association, Mr Mpungose confirmed that there is an issue between them and Intercape and that the matter is now being resolved by the Provincial Department of Transport.

Mr Kwanele Ncalane of the Department of Transport also confirmed the issue, saying they are investigating the matter and once everything is finalised, they will issue a report.
