NEWCASTLE KZN: Amajuba District Mayor calls for calm amid unrest

Cllr Ngubane led the meeting and expressed concern at the impact of the unrest on business and economy within the district.

Dr Musa Ngubane, the Mayor of the Amajuba District, led an urgent Community Safety Forum this week in response to looting and rioting.

The virtual meeting was attended by the Justice Cluster and both government and non-government structures, to deliberate on the recent ‘protests’ which have left many businesses looted and destroyed.

Cllr Ngubane led the meeting and expressed concern at the impact of the unrest on business and economy within the district. He also paid tribute to the brave men and women who protected the town, malls and business areas.

On behalf of district leadership, Cllr Ngubane has urged people to refrain from looting shops and destroying property. He also called on private residents who are assisting in safeguarding the town, to do so within the prescripts of the law and ‘respect the availability of SAPS’.
