NEWCASTLE KZN: Hundreds answer the call to protect Newcastle

A plan was laid out to assist SAPS keep the town safe from protesters.

Hundreds of Newcastle’s residents answered the call from Morne Potgieter to meet along Voortrekker Street this evening.

At the meeting, a plan was laid out to assist SAPS keep the town safe from protesters by monitoring for any suspicious activity. Ordinary residents offered to patrol the streets of their own suburbs to look out for signs of danger.

Those with more security experience have been posted at more strategic locations, including all of the entrances and exits of Newcastle.

Organisers, who asked that no photographs be taken and that their identities be withheld, say they want to prevent what happened in Durban from happening here in Newcastle.
