Ladysmith KZN: N3 going towards Van Reenen blocked by protesters

Motorists are strongly advised to stay off the N3 and R103

This evening (July 10), protesters (who want former President Jacob Zuma released from prison) closed both the north- and southbound N3 highway going towards Van Reenen.

Tyres were burned and there were reports of stones being hurled at vehicles.

This was not the only area that was affected by the protests.

The R103, near the Farmers’ Market before the Pieters turn-off, was also blocked.

Police, the Traffic Department, and N3TC incident management water tankers were at both scenes.

Flames leapt high into the sky from the burning tyres, with the protesters fiercely chanting: “FREE ZUMA!”

Public Safety officers were on scene to put out the fires so that motorists could continue on their way, albeit with extreme caution.

At this time, it is advisable for motorists to stay off the N3 and R103.
