VRYHEID KZN: Local dancers heat up the stage at KZN competition

KZN has produced four Grand Champion winners since 2014

The South African Championships for Performing Arts (SACOPA) is a prestigious performing arts competition that has been running for 24 years and is open to contestants aged five and upwards. They get the opportunity to compete in a number of styles within the different events, being: Acting, Vocals, Dance, Variety Arts, Instrument and Modelling. The contestants audition at provincial level to be part of the team that will compete in the national competition, which is held annually in Rustenburg over a 10-day period. All 11 provinces are represented by approximately 3000 contestants who compete for medals, overall awards and a place in Team South Africa. Then there’s the opportunity to compete in the World Championships, which are held in Los Angeles. There is also an opportunity to win the Junior or Senior Grand Champion prize, which is a fully-paid trip to the World Championships – in which KwaZulu-Natal has been very successful over the years. KZN has produced four Grand Champion winners since 2014 – three in Vocals and one in Dance – and has brought home many medals and overall awards, as well as winning the Provincial Trophy for Spirit on many occasions.

In June, seven of Stepping Out Dance Academy’s dancers competed in Durban and the results revealed that all seven have advanced to compete at national level.

Congratulations to the following dancers:
