Ladysmith KZN: Loving father speaks about daughters involved in bypass crash

Jackson Mdakane's two daughters were involved in the horrific crash that took place on Monday

A father has come forward to speak about the gruelling ordeal he and his family are currently going through.

Jackson Mdakane’s two daughters were involved in the horrific car crash that took place on Monday morning (July 5) on the bypass near Ladysmith Truck Stop.

Sadly, Jackson’s elder daughter, Lihle Mdakane, lost her life in the crash and was declared dead at the scene.

Lihle was just 20 years old and was in her second year of studying Business Management at UKZN in Durban. She matriculated from Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) back in 2018.

Jackson’s other daughter, Vuyelwa Mdakane (17), sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by emergency personnel.

On Tuesday night (July 6), a Netcare 911 chopper flew into town and landed at Ladysmith Regional Hospital to airlift Vuyelwa to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

Jackson says that Vuyelwa’s injuries are serious, as she sustained numerous breakages to her arm and major injuries to her head, which caused swelling of the brain. She is currently in a coma and no procedures can be performed on her until the swelling in her brain goes down, which could be in the next two weeks.

Vuyelwa is a Grade 11 student at Ladysmith High School (LHS).

The family is asking for prayers and well wishes for their daughter’s recovery.

Lihle will be laid to rest on Saturday (July 10) in Bergville at 11am.
