NEWCASTLE KZN: Visiting hours amended at Mediclinic Newcastle

Mediclinic Southern Africa says the safety of patients and staff is of the utmost importance.

The increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the community has prompted Mediclinic Newcastle to amend its visiting hours.

In a statement from Mediclinic Southern Africa, Chief Clinical Officer, Dr Gerrit de Villiers expressed that safety of patients and staff was of the utmost importance and said revised visitor measures would the risk of infection for patients. The decision will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary.

“One visitor per patient will continue to have access to non Covid-19 patients between 15:00 and 16:00 daily. Visitation for patients who are Covid-19 positive or suspected Covid-19 patients is restricted. However, exceptions will be made where possible and safe for critically ill patients.”

Dr de Villiers said arrangements for neonatal intensive care (NICU), obstetrics and paediatric units remain in place.

Mediclinic Newcastle has implored the community to strictly adhere to all recommended measures to reduce their risk of infection, including wearing of face masks, social distancing and avoiding contested public areas. Those who are unwell are urged to remain at home to reduce the risk to vulnerable members of the community.

“Mediclinic will continue to support engagement with family and friends through electronic communication channels, to encourage the vital support that these relationships provide in the healing process.”
