An IDP (Integrated Development Planning) road show took place at KwaHlahlindlela in eMondlo on May 13. The aim of the meeting was to discuss certain projects around Abaqulusi Municipality that were carried out, and other projects that still need to be implemented with the budget from Zululand District Municipality.

One of the many projects discussed on the day was the eMondlo bulk water supply scheme. The raw water pump station needs to be refurbished; the new 540m x 450mm diameter ductile iron pipe needs to be constructed, as well as a 3km x 500mm diameter, o-PVC PN 25 pipeline and 300m x 450mm diameter galvanised steel T25 pipe with six air and six scour valves. It also includes a new office building at the pump station, minor refurbishment at the WTW (Water Treatment Works) in eMondlo, and the construction of a new 3km x 125mm diameter PN16 with one scour valve and three air valves to Purim. At the Bhekumthetho water supply scheme, two boreholes were equipped with new borehole pumps. A new 1.7km x 75mm HDPE pipe has been laid to pump water up to the reservoir in the Bhekumthetho area. From there, the water gravitates towards the community standpipes. The budget spent on these two projects was R58,469,607.38. There were a total of 52 local labourers over the duration of the eMondlo bulk water supply projects.

The settlements that benefited from these projects are Engilandi, Purim, Enhlahleni, Mabona, Ezingadini, Emondlo (section A and B), Ncengumusa, Madreseni D2, Phebukthula, Zwelisha, Maytshotshomba, Bhekumthetho, Nceceni, Mvuzini, Kwamachancha and Mawombe. The reservoirs and Southern reticulation involves the installation of a water network comprising 8700m of 63mm x 3100m, 50mm diameter HDPE pipe, 36m donga crossing, the installation of three scour, 23 isolation and 13 air valves, including chambers and 130 house connections using a 20mm diameter pipe and standpipes, and also 130 water meters. The bulk and reticulation North involves the installation of a water network comprising 6200m x 50mm, 5200m x 63mm and 7600m x 75mm diameter HDPE class 10 and 16 pipes, a 24m river and 4.5m gravel road crossing, with a steel pipe of 50mm in diameter, the installation of 19 air valves and 25 isolation valves, and 250 house connections.
