Ladysmith KZN: Ward councillor helps clean up Acaciavale

Another clean-up campaign will be held next month

ANC Ward Councillor Thabisile Njoko and her team decided to take matters into their own hands recently. With the help of the municipality, they cleaned up areas in Acaciavale on May 21.

Ms Njoko said she had seen the complaints from the residents, saying the area is a ‘pigsty’, and therefore decided to hold a ‘say no to illegal dumping’ campaign.

Youth member Phumlani Mpembe, who was part of the team, explained that he understands that the municipality is short-staffed and therefore encourages community members themselves to stop all illegal dumping.

He added that the municipality picks up refuse every Monday in the area, so he fails to understand why people are littering. “Can they not just wait for the garbage truck on Monday?”

Ms Njoko and Mr Mpembe ended off by saying that another campaign is set to take place
next month.
