VRYHEID KZN: Transport MEC visits families of crash

On Thursday, April 8, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport , Community  Safety and Liaison Ms Nelisiwe Peggy Nkonyeni visited the families of 10 road crash victims in KwaNongoma to pay her respect and offer condolences on behalf of the provincial government. This follows the horrific accident occurred on R34 road in Vryheid on Tuesday, April 6. It is alleged a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a bakkie. MEC Nkonyeni revealed that government has initiated both forensic and engineering investigations into the accident. The MEC committed government to assist the bereaved families during this difficult period. ” Indeed there are no appropriate words to express our heartfelt condolences when a family has lost so many members. It is a very difficult moment for the families, but nevertheless, we have identified challenges on the road where the accident happened. As the Department of Transport, we are going to be intervening with regards to ensuring a tragedy like this does not happen again on that particular road”, said MEC Nkonyeni.
