NEWCASTLE KZN: Graham Gibson – taken away too soon

Family members pay tribute to the life and legacy of Graham Gibson.

Tributes continue to pour in for Graham Gibson, who was stabbed to death alongside the N11 on March 30.

Since news of his passing broke, numerous residents and family members have come forward to pay tribute to Graham’s life and legacy.

Here are some of the comments submitted by Graham’s family:

Bonsai-Josh Methley: “You never know how much you truly value someone, until they no longer walk this earth with us. It’s taken a bit of time to take it all in. The hole left in a family. Taken way too soon… A true gentleman, humble and solid as a rock! A man worth knowing and having in your corner. I battle to come to terms with this tragedy. Lots of love to my extended family throughout this time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.”

Family of Graham Gibson devastated by his murder

Tarryn-Jane McNaught: “There are no words to sum up the devastation that has rocked our family for an act so heartless and senseless. But today is not about the shadow but about the beautiful light you shared with all of us. Uncle G, you were an amazing grandfather, father, godfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, friend and farmer. You offered us the most amazing place to spend our childhood holidays filled with ‘pull my finger’ jokes, bareback riding, epic braais, Christmas cricket games, trying to throw us off the tube at Chelmsford Dam and squeaking some takkies on the dance floor. To [Graham’s wife, children and sister] I wish my arms were long enough to reach out and hug you but just know you are surrounded by so much love and support. Uncle G, you will always be remembered as my favourite ginger ninja and I hope that wherever you are, your soul is at peace and the dops are ever flowing. What an honour it was to know you and be part of your family. Until we meet again, uhambe kahle malume.”

Roxanne Volker: “Sending my deepest condolences to [Graham’s wife, children, sister and mother], the rest of my family and everyone else who knew him. I have no words that will help but can only pray you feel comforted during this tragic time. We as a family have so many wonderful years of fun memories with you all at the farm, riding horses, coming there on our school holidays, weddings, big parties and much more. Uncle Graham was a kind-hearted man who didn’t deserve this cruelty. May your soul RIP.”

Bradley Carr: “[To Graham’s wife and children] My heart breaks for you and family. My fondest memories growing up was the time I spent on the farm. I remember Uncle Graham taking me on the tractor, going hunting, always pushing me in the pool any second he had the chance, helping him with the boat, going tubing (I loved it when he let me drive the boat too), my first horse ride, going to the tanks and holding me over the top to help get fresh buckets of milk. Letting Tash and I go wild and eat all your strawberries in the strawberry patch! Everyone looked up to Uncle Graham, he was incredibly loyal, humble, generous and selfless. You are all in my prayers during this difficult time.”
