NEWCASTLE KZN: Four arrested after being caught with ‘suspected stolen property’

One of the suspects was handed over to police by a local security company, who caught him with copper pipes in his possession.

Newcastle Police are currently investigating two cases of ‘possession of stolen property’.

This is according to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office. In the first case, the alleged crime occurred at about 10am on March 22 on Hardwick Street (near Farmers Hall).

“It is alleged the suspect (27) was handed over to police officials by security officers from Magenta Security, after they caught him with copper pipes, which they suspected were stolen,” said Arumugam.

In the second incident, which occurred on March 25, three suspects were arrested at about 2.30pm along Harding Street.

“The suspects, aged 25, 27 and 30, had speakers in their possession. When they were questioned by police, they could not give an explanation as to where they had procured the items,” explained Arumugam.

Both cases are currently under investigation.
