NEWCASTLE KZN: Teen murders girlfriend and hides body near Farmers Hall

The suspect (19) has been arrested and placed under guard in hospital.

Newcastle Police are investigating a case of murder, which took place on March 14, in the open area near the Farmers Hall and Oval Track.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Office, the African male suspect allegedly had a quarrel with his girlfriend (20) while they were in town.

“According to the suspect’s aunt, who lives in Madadeni, the suspect left home on March 13 to head into town. He was questioned by the family when he came home late and he told them he was robbed in town,” explained Arumugam.

The suspect then began vomiting and was rushed to Madadeni Provincial Hospital, where he was admitted.

“The family became suspicious enough to search his room and they found a letter, written in Zulu, where the suspect apologised for killing his girlfriend and wrote down details to give directions to where her body could be found,” revealed Arumugam.

She added that the aunt immediately turned the letter over to Newcastle SAPS, who then carried out a search in the area mentioned in the letter.

“Newcastle Crime Office members found the victim’s body hidden in the bush in the area near Farmer’s Hall and the Oval Track. The suspect was promptly arrested and placed under guard at the hospital while investigations continue,” concluded Arumugam.
