Ladysmith KZN: People living in fear after deadly shootings

2 shootings in Ezakheni and Steadville have claimed 2 lives

The circumstances remain unclear surrounding the death of a 45-year-old man in Steadville last week Tuesday (February 9).

What is known is that the man died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to police spokesperson Captain Bongani ‘Skhindi’ Nyathi, the deceased has been identified as Simphiwe Ntshalintshali.

Captain Nyathi added that a firearm and a cartridge were found next to the gunshot victim, who was lying under a tree.

“On February 9 at about 4.30pm, police attended to a complaint from a member of the community, informing them that the body of a man was lying under a tree,” explained the police spokesperson.

Police have opened an inquest docket into the incident and no arrests have been made at this time.

Four days later, a 27-year-old was brutally gunned down by three unknown suspects in Ezakheni E-Section on Saturday (February 13). The suspects were allegedly posing as police officials.

Residents are living in fear after shootings that seem to happen weekly in and around Ladysmith.
