ESTCOURT: One dead and multiple injuries in Saturday collisions

While the cause of this collision is being investigated, it seems to have stemmed from a single vehicle collision, which then turned deadly

Emergency services responded to two collisions on Saturday (November 7), sadly one fatality was reported.

In the first incident along the R74 between Winterton and Estcourt, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn off the road.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one occupant sustained serious injuries. The patient was stabilized and treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment,” commented Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha.

Later on Saturday night, paramedics were on the scene of a multiple vehicle collision, involving several pedestrians, on the Wembezi Road.

One person succumbed to the severe injuries before emergency services arrived on scene. Five more people were also treated for serious injuries.

While the cause of this collision is being investigated, Mr Botha says it seems to have stemmed from a single vehicle collision, which then turned deadly.

“According to reports from scene, the collision started with a minor incident between two vehicles. As the occupants stopped and got out of their vehicles to exchange details, a third vehicle collided into them. A further two vehicles from the oncoming traffic then crashed into the vehicles,” he explained.
