“It is alleged that on July 21, 2018, at 6.30pm, a taxi full of passengers was travelling on the R74 Weenen road in Colenso when they were ambushed by a number of suspects who opened fire on their vehicle. A total of 12 people died after they sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Last year, Thandukwazi Thusi (42) was arrested for the same case, but died in prison while awaiting trial,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker.

The second suspect was arrested last Tuesday after a lengthy investigation by the investigating officer assigned to the case.

“Hadebe was arrested for multiple murders, where a total of 12 people were killed and five others sustained serious injuries,” added Brigadier Naicker.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, praised the investigating officer for making sure the suspects were brought to book.

“I am confident that all those involved in the brutal killing of so many lives will be caught soon,” he said.
