ESTCOURT: Woman raped and held hostage for 20 hours

The sexual assault continued after the man forcibly took the woman to his room

A woman endured more than 20 hours of being held hostage and raped, allegedly by an ex-boyfriend.

The woman was on her way home from the central business district on September 17 at about 3pm when she allegedly encountered her ex-boyfriend.

“He pulled out a knife and threatened to stab her if she screamed. He instructed her to follow him. When they reached a place known as Emagebeni near Zampumpu Hostel, he pushed her to the ground and raped her,” explained police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The sexual assault continued after the man forcibly took the woman to his room.

She was freed from the room the following day at about 1pm.

The woman opened a case of rape at Estcourt police station.

“Police quickly went out to trace the suspect and he was arrested the same day. He was traced and immediately arrested by the Estcourt Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit,” added Captain Nyathi.

The man appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on September 20 for a bail application, which was denied.
