Vryheid KZN: Battlefields ready to welcome you

For seven months during the Covid19 lockdown, the battlefields in KZN have not seen a tourist.
On September 9 this year, however, the cannon balls started flying again and local operators are waiting to welcome you into their midst.
The KZN Battlefields Route (BFR) had its 31st Annual General Meeting at the Battlefields Country Lodge and Sports Resort just outside of Dundee on the route to Vryheid. Until such time that the overseas market is operational again, the focus is on local tourists.
Vryheid Tourism has been one of the three founder members of this route when it started in 1990. Since then, Vryheid has made a non-stop contribution both financially and on the marketing side, with members attending key national tourism shows in South Africa.

Vryheid Tourism has been part of the Battlefields’ Stand at the annual International Tourism Indaba in Durban, the Gauteng Getaway Show and the Cape Travel and Adventure Show.

War upon war upon war…
Ons is nou in die unieke posisie dat ons die geleentheid het om ons slagvelde te besoek terwyl die oorsese toeriste nog nie hierheen kom nie. Vryheid en omgewing lê binne bereik van baie van hierdie slagvelde. Hoeveel van hierdie bekende slagvelde het u al saam met vriende en familie besoek?
Sedert 1818 het meer as 69 veldslae in KZN plaasgevind in agt verskillende oorloë. Dit het ingesluit botsings tussen die Voortrekkers en Zulu’s, die Anglo-Zulu konflik en die Anglo-Boereoorlog en nog meer soos by Bloedrivier/Ncome (tussen Vryheid en Dundee), Talana Museum en die Slagveld by Dundee en die internasionaal bekende slagvelde by Isandlwana en Rorke’s Drift om maar net ‘n paar van die bekendstes te noem.
Vryheid is definitief meer as net slagvelde. Met die somer op hande kan ons sommer maklik die wildtuine, wildsplase, warmbronne besoek en die Zulukultuur beleef. Maak gerus ‘n draai by die inligtingskantoor en by van die toerisme bronne wat gemaklik binne ‘n dagbesoek van Vryheid af is.
